Portsmouth v Charlton Athletic team news: Adam Matthews starts as one of three changes – Marcus Maddison out with fresh injury
BY LOUIS MENDEZ
Adam Matthews makes the first start of his second stint at Charlton as the South Londoners travel to Portsmouth.
Matthews is one of three changes, as Ryan Inniss and Ben Watson both miss out through suspension. Jonny Williams and Jake Forster-Caskey come into the starting line-up, with Paul Smyth dropping to the bench.
Marcus Maddison is left out of the squad entirely after picking up a knock in training this week.
Welsh international Matthews is expected to play as a right-wing back, with Ian Maatsen operating on the opposite side – the two wide men flanking a back-three of Chris Gunter, Akin Famewo and Darren Pratley.
Forster-Caskey, Williams and Andrew Shinnie will sit behind the front two of Omar Bogle and Conor Washington as the Addicks go in search of a fifth league win on the spin.
Maddison suffered an injury during training this week and misses out completely, with youngster James Vennings featuring on the bench.
Charlton: Amos, Pratley, Famewo, Gunter, Matthews, Maatsen, Forster-Caskey, Shinnie, Williams, Washington, Bogle. Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Purrington, Aneke, Morgan, Levitt, Smyth, Vennings.
