£1m improvements to Greenwich parks

Residents will get improved parks and green spaces thanks to a £1 million investment.

Greenwich council asked residents what improvements they would like to see in their parks in a borough-wide consultation in July.

Residents were asked to give feedback on play areas, sport and fitness, basic facilities and maintenance, removal of redundant or damaged features/facilities, heritage, nature and wildlife and events.

More than 2,600 people reported back, which shaped the cabinet’s final decision of dividing the funds.

The survey revealed 87 per cent of people viewed the borough’s parks as “very valuable”.

The top priorities for people were basic maintenance, play areas, removal of damaged facilities and nature and wildlife areas, which influenced the parks regeneration plans.

The cabinet agreed that the selection of parks most in need for restoration was Plumstead Gardens, Charlton Park, Bostall Gardens, Rockliffe Gardens, Queenscroft Park, St Mary’s Gardens, Sunbury Street, Shrewsbury Park, Twinkle Park, Eaglesfield Park and Maryon Park.
