Roy Hodgson left ‘very disappointed’ after Crystal Palace beaten by Aston Villa

Roy Hodgson was “very disappointed” with the way his Crystal Palace side failed to make the most of their numerical advantage in their 3-0 defeat against Aston Villa.

Villa’s Tyrone Mings was sent off late in the second half with the score 1-0 to the Midlands outfit.

Palace could barely muster a scoring chance before Kortney Hause and Anwar El Ghazi condemned them to a second successive defeat. Hodgson’s side have also conceded 10 goals in two matches – with this reverse following last weekend’s 7-0 battering by Liverpool.

The Palace boss said: “Very [disappointed]. I was quite confident at half-time that we could win and that we would create goal chances and get the ball in and around their penalty area.

“I didn’t see enough [quality] in the second half and saw some very good counter-attacking from Villa.

“You need more time to reflect after games. I didn’t see the 3-0 coming at half-time. We’d shown enough in the first half to suggest we could get back in it, especially when Mings was sent off.

“It didn’t work out. We were hit severely on the counter-attack.

“The worrying fact and saddening fact was that this was an opportunity to get back in [form after the Liverpool defeat] and we didn’t. Villa were worth their win.”
