Lewisham culture and diversity forum setup to help young people get into the creative industry

Writers and artists have joined a forum to help amplify black and diverse voices through culture.

The Lewisham Culture and Diversity Advisory Forum will also advise the council on how to help under-represented young people get into the creative industry.

The members of the forum include screenwriter Eva Edo, artist, writer and curator Cedar Lewisohn and broadcaster and producer Crispin Phillip.

Councillor Andre Bourne said: “I’m delighted to have chaired the first meeting of Lewisham’s new Culture and Diversity Advisory Forum. We discussed a range of exciting issues, including early planning for our year as Borough of Culture and how we plan to celebrate the best of what Lewisham has to offer in 2022.

“We’re excited to begin our journey and to create a legacy that inspires young people. We’re ready to showcase Lewisham’s talent.”

The forum will meet four times a year and help decide the 2022 culture programme for the borough.
