Spotlight on Fashion

Compiled by Lottie Kilraine

Since lockdown, there has been a noticeable shift in our everyday relationship with the outdoors.

Nature has been a source of solace for many and as lockdown rules heightened, our appreciation for local parks and green spaces did too.

This appreciation can be seen in many of this season’s collections with studios choosing to incorporate natural colours, forms and materials within their designs.

South London has an abundance of independent brands creating unique designs and sustainable products.

Now that socialising is officially back, it is a good time to focus on accessories.

For spring and summer this year, many designers have introduced big, statement pendants and experimental textures.

Investing in a good quality pair of sunglasses and a staple statement piece of jewellery will make styling the spontaneous days out that we have all missed much simpler.

CREASE Studios

CREASE Studios

CREASE Studios is a clothing and accessory brand based in Deptford and created by co-founders Kate Donald and Rosemary Lambert.

Sustainability is at their core and CREASE’s mission is to reduce waste and contribute to an industry of slow, ethical fashion.

They only manufacture in the UK to keep CO2 emissions low.

This season’s designs were informed by elements of the beach, scallops, kelp, clouds, sea and sky.

Inspired by lockdown, CREASE is embracing getting back to nature by reflecting British wildlife.

Finches Emporium

With brighter days ahead, it is a good idea to invest in a good quality pair of sunglasses.

Based in Forest Hill, Finches Emporium has been an independent family-run business since 1947.

They specialise in ski, snowboard and cycling equipment but the Finches staff know their stuff when it comes to picking accessories.

Finches recommends: “Oakley sunglasses are a perfect fit because they are incredibly fashionable but created to keep up with an active lifestyle.

“Oakley lenses designed and tested under extreme high mass and high velocity circumstances to ensure uncompromising protection across a wide range of demanding conditions. They have classic silhouettes that suit most faces and really are worth the price.”
