Meteorite on display at Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum has unveiled a new addition to the collection that is literally out of this world.

On display is the Winchcombe meteorite, which was recovered from a field in Gloucestershire in February.

The piece is an extremely rare type of meteorite and the first fall to have been recovered from the UK in 30 years.

Museum director, Dr Doug Gurr said: “Our doors may have been closed to the public but our 300 scientists have been hard at work – we’re thrilled to be able to share a snapshot of their research with visitors – the more than 4.5 billion year old Winchcombe meteorite and a brand new species of mineral from Cornwall.”
