Lewisham’s JB Rose is back with a self-love anthem

By Rachael Griffiths

Her first single shot to Number 1 in the Urban Influencer Chart where it stayed for a solid six weeks, and now the singing vegan mum is back again.

JB Rose, originally from Lewisham, released her first single “Back to Love” last Summer which she wrote after her cousin was killed in a knife attack and to “encourage people to be our brother’s keeper and love one another”.

Her new single, “Gold” is set to light up the specialist soul charts after it dropped on April 30.

A slick and stunning video will accompany the new single, continuing the uplifting theme to bring back positivity in these challenging times.

The vocal tutor explains: “…With this song, I wanted to remind us all that we are gold and the first love we must harness is the love of self”.

Lewisham certainly played a part in her music and she cites it as her foundation regarding creative support.

Musicians came to her school and invited her to the Academy of Music: “I was one of the very first young people to join and in no time threw myself into vocal lessons and music classes.

“At last I had an outlet for my singing and song writing”.

She then started singing at all of Lewisham’s park events and community events and practically lived at the Albany Theatre doing music, dance and theatre.

After going vegan when pregnant with her first child 12 years ago, JB Rose still visits Lewisham market for cheap fruit and veg and Deptford for its selection for Caribbean, African and Chinese food.

She still maintains her strong connections in Deptford with the youth theatre group she set up called “Second Wave” and listens to most genres of music.

JB Rose came into the music industry through grass root community organisations and can’t wait to get out there and perform again.

With the up-tempo, soulful new single encouraging self-belief and self-love, many will surely be dancing her.

The video, filmed at South London’s Camberwell Studios, continues the uplifting theme, featuring a cameo appearance from her young sons dressed in Black Panther outfits.
