Man dies after being stabbed to death in busy Streatham street

A man has died after being knifed in the chest in a broad daylight attack in Streatham, witnessed by horrified drivers stuck in a traffic jam.

More than a dozen police cars rushed to Prentis Road, Streatham, this afternoon following the incident at around 4.16pm.

Officers found the victim with a stab wound to his chest, the Met has confirmed.

He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

An air ambulance also landed on nearby Tooting Common.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called at approximately 4.16pm on Thursday, June 10 to Prentis Road, SW16 to reports of stabbing.”

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene and found a man with a stab wound to the chest.

“He was taken to a hospital in Central London where he was pronounced dead at 4.51pm.

“Police are on the scene and there are currently road closures along Prentis Road. The public are advised to avoid the area.”

The crime scene is believed to be near the Royal Mail sorting office, pictured above.

The incident took place a matter of yards from where terrorist Sudesh Amman was shot dead by armed cops in February last year after attempting to stab three people.

There was also a stabbing earlier today in Cedars Road, Clapham.
