Mamma Mia! Björn told he must not disturb the locals

Developers behind a proposed Abba-themed restaurant have been told they have to review disruption to local residents after three months instead of a year.

The decision was made at a planning committee on Tuesday where residents spoke of fears of traffic, noise, drunken revellers and pollution brought by the 500-capacity nightly show Mamma Mia The Party.

Councillors voted for the review to come earlier as they were not satisfied residents would be protected sufficiently by the current Visitor Management Plan (VMP). Now the section 106 agreement – a planning condition for the benefit of the community – must be adjusted in accordance with the change before the scheme proceeds.

Planning permission was granted for the temporary five-year scheme in Stamford Street in November 2017.

The scheme is the brainchild of Abba’s Björn Ulvaeus and will be an theatre experience where audience members interact with the cast.

It will be open seven-days-a-week until 10.15pm and has permission to operate for five years.
