Kensington flat on the market for £800-a-month doesn’t even have an oven

By Jacob Phillips, local democracy reporter

A flat in a wealthy London borough is on the market for more than £800 a month – but it does not have an oven.

Instead, the lucky tenant has the opportunity to microwave their food from the comfort of the bed.

The bedsit is so small the kitchenette almost touches the end of the bed.

Photos of the property show a microwave positioned on a stool.

Although there is a fridge and sink the property is missing one vital component: An oven.

Instead, the landlord describes the kitchen as a “living-work-sleeping-kitchen” making it very versatile, but crowded.

The unusual property on West Cromwell Road also has access to a shared bathroom and shower and comes with a double bed, a cupboard and storage space.

The average property in Earl’s Court costs £1.15 million, and the average rent in the area is £702 a week, according to estate agents Foxtons.

The flat is also situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London’s most expensive borough where houses cost up to £37m.

An advert from OpenRent for the property says the bedsit is perfect for an individual or couple and would be well suited to students or young professionals.

The advert says: “There are two shared shower rooms situated on the second floor comprising of shower, washbasin and W.C.

“The room is bright with a high ceiling and sash windows and a neutral decor throughout.

“West Cromwell Road is ideally located for the underground stations of Earls Court, Gloucester Road and South Kensington.”

The flat comes with electric heating and electric and water bills are included. There is no gas in the property.

OpenRent and the landlord were contacted for comment.
