England boss Southgate considering senior call-ups for Palace duo Tyrick Mitchell and Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace defenders Tyrick Mitchell and Marc Guehi are both reportedly being closely watched by Gareth Southgate as he weighs up his England squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
The Daily Mail claim Southgate is keeping “close tabs” on Mitchell, with friendlies in March seen as a possible opportunity for the Three Lions manager to hand the 22-year-old his first call up to the squad as preparations begin for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Mitchell, pictured, who penned a new deal last April to keep him at Selhurst Park until 2025, has played every minute this season in the Premier League and graduated through the Eagles’ academy in 2020.
Mitchell has made the most tackles and interceptions, 51, of any Premier League player this season. However, he has never featured for any of the England youth teams.
The Times have also name-checked England U21 skipper Guehi as someone Southgate intends to keep an eye on ahead of next year’s winter World Cup.
Guehi joined Palace in the summer from Chelsea in an £18million deal after impressing on loan with Swansea in the Championship. The Ivory Coast-born 21-year-old, moved to England at the age of one and began his career at Cray Wanderers.
Guehi has thrived alongside Joachim Andersen at the heart of the Palace defence and was named England U21 captain this summer by new manager Lee Carsley.
Eberechi Eze is expected to return to the squad for their trip to Burnley tomorrow after recovering from an Achilles injury that he suffered at the end of last season. The Greenwich-born playmaker was going to be included in Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2020 prior to his injury.
