By PAUL LAGAN
Britain’s number one Johnna Konta crashed out of Wimbledon losing in starightbset 6/3, 6/2 to Dominika Cibulkova with the first set a blur for Konta, she sercumbed to her hard-hitting opponent.
the second set was little better and Konta blew a break point at 2/3 but crashed a forehand into the net to go 2/4 down.
Too many unforced errors was part of her game. But she held her next service game to make it 3/4. A straightforward game to 15 saw Cibulkova go within a game of victory.More errors saw the Australian-born player go love 30 down. But a ace brought her back into the game. A weak backhand brought up two match points, the first saved and the second, a beautiful backhand down the line to save the second to take it to Duce.
But advantage was restored to her opponent which she luckily saved – her third. But a wayward long ball brought up the fourth match point, which again Konta saved. An ace ensured Konta took advantage back before another wayward effort brought it back to duce. Konta served served her well to again take advantage before an ace won the game to bring the game to 4/5 to Cibulkova.Konta quickly went 30/love down before being wrong-footed to go within a point of crashing out which she did by failing to restore serve.
All over in one hour and 19 minutes.
Next up is Britain’s Kyle Edmonds against Bradley Klahn from the US.
