AFC Wimbledon boss responds to Sunderland and Barnsley links to Jack Rudoni

Mark Robinson has confirmed that AFC Wimbledon will not be selling one of their rising talents in this January transfer window amid a report emerging that Sunderland and Barnsley had both made an approach for Jack Rudoni.

The report claimed that the South Londoners had turned down approaches for the 20-year-old from League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland and Championship strugglers Barnsley.

Rudoni, born in Carshalton, has registered seven goals and four assists this season in 32 games in all competitions under Robinson.

Rudoni signed a new contract at Plough Lane in 2020.

When asked about the approaches for the Wimbledon academy graduate, Robinson told the South London Press: “We have got a young squad, and that is a part of what we’re doing here – we are going to get offers for young players.

“But it’s up to the club to make the decision, if those young players do move on, when the right time is for them to go. They’re all under contract and all a big part of what we’re going to do.

“We are trying to build something here, and you’re not going to build something if you keep letting the young players go.

“That’s just an ongoing discussion with the club. I realise that with the model we have in place, we will have to sell a young player now and again – it is a part of the nature of what we’re doing.

“But it certainly won’t be in this window.”
