Off-duty policeman accused of ‘strangulation’

A serving Met officer has been charged with strangulation, ABH and criminal damage following an incident in Brockley Rise on Saturday.

PC Thomas Andrews has been remanded in custody following a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 11) and will appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, August 8.

PC Andrews has been suspended from duty.

Patrolling officers were alerted by a member of the public to an incident in Brockley Rise, Forest Hill, at about 1am on Saturday.

The officers spoke to PC Andrews, an off-duty police officer attached to the Central South Command Unit.

A woman at the location, who was known to the man, reported the she had been assaulted and her phone damaged.

He was arrested on suspicion of ABH and criminal damage and subsequently charged. The South East Command Unit has led the investigation into the criminal charges.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.
