Met officer dismissed after assaulting a bar worker
A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed following an assault conviction when he attacked bar staff.
Luke Wilson, 28, from South East division of the Met, was found guilty of assault by beating and was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months in March this year.
He had been arrested by City of London Police on July 2, 2021 following an incident at a bar in King William Street, near London Bridge.
Having been asked to leave the premises by a member of staff at the venue, he then assaulted one of the bar staff.
Following a misconduct hearing yesterday, Wilson was found to have engaged in gross misconduct and was dismissed without notice. He will also never be allowed to be a police officer again.
Wilson must also complete 80 hours’ unpaid work, pay £200 compensation to the victim, a £128 victim statutory surcharge and £775 court costs.
Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, in charge of policing for Lewisham, Bexley and Greenwich, said: “Police officers are rightly held to a high standard where professionalism and behavioural standards are concerned.
“Whether on or off duty they must behave in a manner befitting public service.
“PC Wilson’s behaviour fell far below the standards we expect from our officers and it is right that he has faced the consequences of his actions.”
“The Met is driven by the values of professionalism, integrity, courage and compassion. We only want the best and will always act when our employees fall below the exemplary standards we and the public expect.”
