AFC Wimbledon boss keen on goalkeeper extending his stay
AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson is keen to extend Will Jaaskelainen’s current deal.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper signed a one-month contract on September 11 after Nathan Broome suffered a fractured foot in the 2-1 EFL Trophy win over Aston Villa’s U21s.
Former Finland U21 international Jaaskelainen made his Dons debut in the 3-2 EFL Trophy win against Crawley Town.
Jaaskelainen made 95 appearances in all competitions at Crewe Alexandra before being was released in the summer.
“We’re talking about it – it’s something that we’re keen to extend,” Jackson told the South London Press.
“What that would look like in terms of the length of the deal, I’m not sure. But I have been really pleased with Will since he came to the club.
“He was excellent in the game he played against Crawley.
“He has conducted himself brilliantly and is training really well. He is pushing Tzanev hard every day, and he will do the same with Nathan Broome when he comes back.”
Versatile full-back Paul Osew was missing from Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bradford City. He was forced off after 24 minutes in the 3-2 win against Crawley with an ankle injury.
Osew signed a new one-year contract extension with the Dons over the summer.
“It’s touch and go with Paul,” explained Jackson of whether Osew would be back for tomorrow’s home game against Colchester United.
“He is still a little bit sore. We will be monitoring it over the next couple of days to see where we go with Paul.”
