You were quite right to say locals are being forced out

Your editorial is quite right to point out that development and gentrification is driving out local businesses and communities that have been in neighbourhoods for generations (Callous way locals are being forced out, South London Press, September 23).

The Tier 1 Investor visa scheme, recently scrapped, has allowed cash-rich global investors to outprice local people when buying property, without asking any questions about how their wealth was gained in the first place.

The mayor has set out his calls for a landlord’s register and powers to freeze rents, based on work done by the New Economics Foundation.

These powers already exist for Berlin and New York. These proposals make a lot of sense to me as well.
