Lack of respect! – Patrick Vieira’s response when asked about Palace only having one shot on target at Leicester
Patrick Vieira said that it shows disrespect towards Leicester City to assume Crystal Palace should have had more than one shot on target during their 0-0 draw at the King Power.
The South Londoners’ only attempt at Danny Ward’s goal came in the 63rd minute, with Odsonne Edouard shooting from the edge of the box.
Marc Guehi, Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze and Luka Milivojevic all had efforts off target.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were bottom of the Premier League table coming into this game and had conceded 24 goals – the most of any side in the division.
“I believe that question is a lack of respect for Leicester City Football Club with the quality of the team and the players that they have,” said Vieira when asked whether he was happy with his side only recording one shot on target.
“When we play against any team, we are not guaranteed to have 20 shots on target. We didn’t perform well enough to have those shots on target.
“On the other side, we defended well. The position of the table is relative and will change week after week.
“Overall, when you’re looking at the performances today, you can tell there isn’t much difference between the two sides.
“It was a challenging and difficult game for us. We came with the intention to play better than what we did today.
“In the first half, we had situations where we could have hurt them a little bit more.
“In the second half, it was all about them. We defended well, but we didn’t do enough to win that game.”
The Eagles were dispossessed 20 times during the 90 minutes and only recorded 12 touches inside Leicester’s penalty area.
“We didn’t take enough risks,” added Vieira.
“We didn’t play forward enough, and we lacked tempo. We had situations where we were one-on-one, and we couldn’t go through.
“The timings of our passes and the timing of our balls in the last third weren’t good enough. We didn’t do enough to win the game.
“Leicester worked hard, showed quality at times, especially in the second half when they made it really difficult for us, but we were solid enough not to concede goals.”
