Palace boss Patrick Vieira delivers verdict on red cards for Mitchell and Tomkins in Fulham defeat

Patrick Vieira had no opinion on both red cards Crystal Palace received in their 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day.

Tyrick Mitchell and James Tomkins were both handed red cards during the 90 minutes.

Academy graduate left-back Mitchell was issued with a straight red by referee Andrew Madley in the 34th minute after he stamped on Kenny Tete after losing control of the ball.

Palace were already 1-0 down before they were reduced to 10 men, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid giving the visitors the lead after meeting Aleksandar Mitrovic’s cross.

It was the first red card Mitchell has received in his professional career.

James Tomkins – starting in place of the suspended Marc Guehi – was then issued with a second yellow card after blocking Mitrovic in the 57th minute.

Defender Tim Ream wrapped up all three points for Marco Silva’s side in the 71st minute when he smashed home Mitrovic’s header down towards goal.

And the Serbian forward scored Fulham’s third in the 80th minute.

“I don’t have any opinion,” said Vieira.

“I didn’t have any chance to look at it again, so I won’t make any comment.

“I don’t have any comment to make.

“I didn’t have to chance to see Tyrick or Tonks. I haven’t spoken with them yet.

“The two red cards, and even the first one, didn’t help us. But outside of those two situations, it was more the performance from the first minute that let us down.”
