MBE for inspirational sixth form governor who helps South London pupils fulfil their potential

The chairman of governors at a Catholic sixth form school has been made an MBE. 

Rupert Evenett, who has presided over Christ the King Sixth Forms (CTK) since 2014, has gained the recognition for his services to education and to the community. 

The school comprises CTK Aquinas, based in Sprules Road, Brockley, CTK St Mary’s, based in Chislehurst Grove, Sidcup, and CTK Emmanuel, based in Belmont Grove, Lewisham. 

A former student of St Dunstan’s in Catford, Mr Evenett, 59, from Blackheath, has in recent years supported the successful takeover of two failing schools and presided over the significant expansion of CTK Sixth Forms, ensuring a strong curriculum. 

As a passionate advocate of social justice, Mr Evenett has championed the introduction of a diversity and inclusion committee and has been a key driving force in implementing the schools’ social mobility strategy.

He has also led eco initiatives and pledges for the schools to become carbon neutral, striving to educate future generations through sustainability. 

And Mr Evenett has spearheaded social action projects at CTK, including employer partnerships, charity and community work.

He initiated an ‘Acts of Charity’ volunteering scheme, resulting in CTK students giving more than 4,000 hours to charity and community work annually.  

His wealth of experience in business and social enterprise has guided students towards employer-led initiatives and mentoring opportunities with businesses. 

Mr Evenett said: “This is an honour for which I’m thrilled and grateful. And of course, it’s also a collective recognition of Christ the King Sixth Forms in its 30th anniversary year and of what everyone [here] has achieved.  

“Over the last several years we have achieved change and growth for the benefit of the students and communities we serve. I’m proud to be part of it.” 

Christ the King Sixth Forms executive principal Shireen Razey said: ““It is hard to overstate the impact that his commitment has had. His vision, leadership, proactive approach and passion for inclusivity have benefited thousands of CTK students over the years.  

“Rupert’s commitment is immeasurable. His drive to provide equity within the local community has transformed the lives of our students. He has presided over a time of great expansion.”
