‘That is a fact’ – Patrick Vieira agrees with question about Crystal Palace’s attacking output after Chelsea defeat

Patrick Vieira has admitted that his Crystal Palace side have lost “a little bit of confidence” in front of goal.

The Eagles have failed to score in three of their last four Premier League outings.

Their last goal from open play in the top flight came on November 6 in the 2-1 away win at West Ham United.

A second-half header from Kai Havertz gave Graham Potter’s side all three points on Sunday.

“The other side to look at it was the chances we created,” said Vieira of Palace’s Premier League scoring record.

“We created enough chances to score goals today. The problem is not about today the most difficult aspect – creating chances – it’s about scoring.

“We should score more goals – that is a fact.

“At the moment, it’s true, we lost a little bit of our confidence. We don’t take our chances – we have to keep working.

“When you don’t win games, you start to lose confidence. But on the other side, which is the message I have sent to the players, is to look at the performances. The performance today was positive.”

Joachim Andersen was taken off in the first half. The Danish centre-back was withdrawn in the 38th minute at Stamford Bridge and was replaced by James Tomkins.

The Eagles have two games coming up this week, hosting both Manchester United and Newcastle at Selhurst Park.

“We don’t know yet,” said Vieira of Andersen’s injury. “It’s the calf.”

Tomkins was making his first Palace appearance since he was sent off in the 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day.

When asked whether he was pleased with the 33-year-old’s performance at Stamford Bridge, Vieira said: “Yes.”
