A majestic and immersive display of sound and light at St Albans Cathedral

This winter, visitors to the majestic St Albans Cathedral will have a opportunity to marvel at life in space and view the world from the perspective of astronauts such as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins who once stated: “We are so tiny in the system of things”.

The cathedral will be lit up in a majestic and immersive display of sound and light, designed by artist Peter Walker and produced by Luxmuralis, from January 31 – February 4.

Walker invites visitors to get lost in theories of existentialism while marvelling up at his spectacular images of space which will be projected around the grand and sacred exterior of the cathedral.

He said: “We are all responsible for this small planet that we started to explore in the 1960s. The artwork is about reflecting inwards as much as it is about reflecting outwards, and about how we take care of our small piece of the Universe.”

Viewers can walk through the light-artworks and be immersed in the installations which are all set to bespoke music.

Projections will include footage of the first rocket launch, an exploration into stories of creation and the Big Bang and an image of Earth as if viewed from amid a galaxy of stars.

The event is an hour long and there will be staggered admission times at 15-minute intervals.

Tickets are £10.
