An ambitious street planting programme has started in Bexley that will see more than 230 trees planted across the borough

The programme is part of Bexley’s extra investment taking place over the autumn and winter to help improve the borough. Many different tree types are being planted in streets and highway verges – replacing dead or diseased trees.

Cabinet member for community, environment and leisure, Councillor Peter Craske said: “We know how important it is to our residents to have a green and attractive borough.

“Through prudent financial planning and investment we have been able to put together a programme of works that will make a difference to residents and visitors.

“We all love to see a healthy tree in bloom close to where we live or work.

“We have had to make some difficult financial decisions in the past but those decisions have paid off and have allowed us to make some improvements we know our residents will want to see.”

The young trees will be protected by wire cages, but residents are asked to keep an eye on the new trees, give them a little water and report any vandalism to the Parks and Open Spaces team on 020 8303 7777.
