Croydon Women Development squad book League Cup final spot after victory over Peckham Town

To date, the miracle of Peckham had been that Croydon had not beaten them in two previous league encounters, so the Trams knew they would have to up their tempo.

Peckham in yellow, with the wind blowing behind them, were dominant for the first 20 minutes, the trams struggling to get out of their own half.

In the Trams’ first real attack, Ruby Murdoch exchanged passes with Sofia Abad whose quick thinking left the opponents’ defence sleepless. Hannah Limb spotted the Peckham keeper out of position and pulled the trigger, firing the ball top left corner to give Croydon the lead.

They doubled their lead in the second half, which they had dominated, when Jade Asagba found Megan Perkin on the left. Her turn and cross was flicked by Asagba to Ashley Murkin, who slipped the ball behind the defence for Asagba to finish off the move she started to cooly slot home.

The Trams then booked their place in the final in spectacular fashion when Angelina Hewitt Williams launched a lofty goal kick, which, aided by the wind, bounced twice before lofting over the  Peckham keeper, who, up until then had kept the score-line respectable, and rolled into the back of the net.

The Trams eased off and Peckham had three more chances before the referee blew for full-time. The Trams go into the Final next week, 1 April, against Queerspace who they pipped to win the league last month.
