‘I told him to shut up’ – Hull boss Rosenior on post-game spat with Lions manager Gary Rowett

Hull manager Liam Rosenior revealed he told Gary Rowett to “shut up” after today’s clash between the two sides.

The two managers clashed twice after the full-time whistle had been blown on an entertaining 2-2 draw at The Den which saw Millwall take the lead and then have to come from behind to earn a point against a young Tigers side.

Speaking about the incident the Hull boss said:  “It’s the last minute of the game.

“I’m shouting – I’m not wasting time. I’m shouting at our back four to run up the pitch for the goalkeeper to kick it. I am not timewasting. It’s a tactical thing, there was no need to waste time. I want to win the game.

“It was me saying can we squeeze up. He’s saying we are timewasting. We are not timewasting. Gary is a great lad, he’s a really great manager and someone I can learn from.

“It’s a passionate sport. I’ll back my team and I’ll defend my team and he will do the same.”

Millwall manager Rowett waited for Rosenior to return to the dugout area after applauding the travelling Hull fans – the two exchanging words again as they went down the tunnel.

Rosenior – asked about why the moment had festered on – said: “I don’t know why. I’ll be honest – I told him to shut up. If that’s what’s going to hurt your feelings as much as that then we are in the wrong business.”

Rowett, asked if he was annoyed by the lack of respect shown by Rosenior, said: “It is what it is. I said what I said on the pitch. I wasn’t overly happy but he told me to shut up about four times.

“It’s a game of passion. I’ve got no problem with Liam. He has done a really good job and he is a fine young coach, he has shown that with his Hull team. I’m not going to make a big deal of it.

“There was one moment at the end where the goalkeeper threw it to a defender, the defender threw it back and the goalkeeper moved it. For me, that is timewasting. My issue really was with the fourth official that he didn’t deal with it – not with Hull, because it’s also what we would do if we were winning away from home.”
