QPR release statement after claims star attacker Ilias Chair jailed

QPR have released a statement after reports emerged that Ilias Chair had been sentenced to a year in jail – with a further suspended 12 months – after being found guilty of breaking a truck driver’s skull with a rock.

The 26-year-old has also been reportedly ordered to pay the victim £13,400 in compensation for his injuries.

Chair, along with his brother Jaber, are accused of assaulting a truck driver named Niels T in court with a rock that left him with serious injuries, including a broken skull.

On Friday, news agency Belga reported that Chair had been sentenced by an Antwerp court to two years in jail.

A QPR statement read on Friday afternoon: “The club are, and have been, in regular contact with Ilias Chair’s legal team regarding a charge of assault which has been made against him.

“The legal proceeding is yet to reach its conclusion. As such, the club will be making no further comment at this stage.”
