Hotel fire in Knightsbridge leaves two men needing medical attention

Two men suffered smoke inhalation after a small part of a luxury hotel room on the 12th floor of the 20-storey building was damaged by fire.

Both were treated on the scene by London Ambulance Service crews, as four fire engines and about 25 firefighters dealt with the blaze at the Park Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge.

The Richard Seifert-designed five-star hotel is at 101 Knightsbridge, near Hyde Park and has stood since 1973, when it was officially opened by then Prime Minister Ted Heath.

The fire brigade’s 999 control officers received a call alerting them to the fire shortly after 9am this morning and deployed crews from Chelsea, Kensington and Soho fire stations. The fire was under control by around 10.15am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
