Former Millwall attacker resolves his future after signing two-year contract
Former Millwall forward Aiden O’Brien has signed a two-year contract extension with National League side Woking.
O’Brien made more than 200 appearances for the Lions during his nine-year spell there, during which he scored 44 goals and assisted 16 times in all competitions.
Since leaving Millwall in 2020, the former Republic of Ireland international made appearances for Sunderland, Portsmouth and Shrewsbury Town before joining Woking on a short term contract in January.
The 31-year-old scored four goals in 13 appearances for the Surrey based club, helping them to a 15th-placed finish.
Woking director of football Jody Brown said: “Aiden is great for the club. Aiden has the right personality, the right level of experience and the right performance levels.
“The one concern was his injuries, but we have seen how hard he works, and we have seen his output when fit. I am sure we have not seen him fully fit yet, so that is exciting in itself.”
O’Brien made appearances for the Republic of Ireland at U17, U19 and U21 level before making his senior debut in a friendly against Poland in 2018, going on to add four more caps.
Brown added: “We got a third-party medical provider to carry out the medical and give us expert feedback and we are all very confident that Aiden is in good condition.
“He is going to be an exciting part of our vision and our clubs’ identity on and off the field.
“He puts high expectations on himself and is driven to do well – that will positively impact everyone around him.”
