Owner of Home Instead Senior Care raises more than £1,300 for the Alzheimer’s Society in swimming challenge
The owner of a business which cares for the elderly people has raised more than £1,300 for the Alzheimer’s Society after completing a 10k open water swim.
Tony O’Flaherty, pictured, is the owner of Home Instead Senior Care Wandsworth, Lambeth and Dulwich, and tested his limits in a gruelling challenge completing the River Dart 10K open water swim.
Tony is a Dementia Champion and helps those with the illness. He completed the Three Peaks Challenge earlier this year and he has also completed triathlons, abseils and other events, all which see him raise money for good causes.
Tony said: “Over the past nine years, we have provided homecare services to more than 300 people
living with dementia, and have seen how, with the right support, they can continue to live meaningful, fulfilling lives.
“As a Dementia Champion I have signed up over 2,000 Dementia Friends, and in the process realised that what people need most is information about what changes may occur as a result of dementia, and the techniques to apply should they arise.”
Tony continued: “The biggest challenge is knowing where to start getting help and advice, and the Alzheimer’s Society is available to speak to people by phone or face-to-face to help people with dementia, and their families, take back control of their lives and remain independent for longer.”
The Dart 10k was the first 10k swim on the open water calendar, and 2019 is in its tenth year, which saw 1,600 swimmers take part.
