Fashion website manager dons 26 items of clothing to run 2.6 Challenge

The fashion-conscious can never have enough clothes, they say.

But most wouldn’t think of wearing 26 items at the same time. Then running a couple of miles up and down their garden for charity.

That is what Hither Green fashion website manager Kate Hurrell, 35, did on Sunday. And she did it with dodgy gold leggings, a faux fur coat, elbow-length leather gloves and over-sized heart-shaped glasses – all found in her time-warp wardrobe.

She donned 26 different items of clothes – one for every minute of the 26 she pledged to run in her garden to raise money for the ovarian cancer charity Ovacome.

Kate, pictured, had been planning to compete in last weekend’s London Marathon, but when she heard that it had been postponed she decided to join the 2.6 Challenge with her “wacky marathon”.

“The more ridiculous I could make the challenge the better,” said Kate. “For as well as boosting my fundraising, I hoped doing this event might raise awareness of ovarian cancer and, who knows, I might even lose a pound or two running around in 26 layers.”

Kate had lost her mother Elizabeth to ovarian cancer in October 2018 aged 65, just five weeks after she had been diagnosed.

Kate said: “Doctors said she might have had the disease for a year-and-a-half, but it was only when she was late stage and struggled to eat more than tiny portions, felt bloated and had a dragging sensation in her abdomen she admitted something was wrong.

“She was always so positive and her motto was to ‘keep calm and carry on’. But she was secretive about her symptoms. She was a very active 65-year-old and we had no idea she was so unwell.”

The symptoms are persistent, continuous bloating; feeling fuller after eating; stomach pain most days and toilet changes – in your bowel or bladder.
