Tooting & Mitcham raise more than £10k to ease financial strain of lockdown

A crowdfunding campaign for Tooting & Mitcham United amid a financial crisis caused by lockdown has raised more than £10,000.

The Terrors have closed the collection after 238 supporters contributed in little more than a month.

The club relies heavily on matchday revenue, their bar and hire of their facilities, which have all been halted by the pandemic.

A sponsored run around the pitch by joint managers Cornelius Nwadialor and Ashley Bosah (pictured above) and coach Myles Warren in the second week boosted donations.

The sum includes £1,900 of sponsorship packages, including six mascot packages, eight for match day sponsorship and two ‘Friend of T&MUFC’ packages for £500.

The cash will be spent on pitch and ground work, first team wages and balls, bibs and cones for the youth section.

Terrors chair Caroline McRoyall, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of our supporters, many of whom have donated more than once to the campaign. The money will help the club so much during this time and when we are able to reopen safely. We look forward to seeing you all at Imperial Fields  soon.”

Contributors were entered into a prize draw with the winner bagging a shirt signed by West Ham former Terros star Michail Antonio.
