Plans for new Lambeth Hospital could see 500 homes built
Plans for a hospital site will create more than 500 new homes, half of which will be affordable for the local community, developers say.
The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is launching a public consultation on proposals to redevelop the Lambeth Hospital site in Stockwell with 570 homes, including 258 affordable flats.
It will have new community uses in Landor Road and green spaces for residents and neighbours to enjoy, including a green corridor.
One in 10 homes will accommodate disabled people.
Adult acute inpatient mental health wards currently at Lambeth Hospital would move to a new building at the Maudsley, in Denmark Hill.
The proceeds from the sale of parts of the 2.5-hectare site at Lambeth Hospital will be invested into its current and future hospital and community facilities.
David Bradley, chief executive at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, said: “To ensure the safety and quality of our mental health services for the people and communities we serve, there is an urgent need to redevelop our mental health hospital facilities.
“We have an opportunity to use the proceeds from our surplus estate at Lambeth Hospital to invest back into our current and future hospital and community facilities, while creating much-needed homes, including genuinely affordable new homes, for local people in Lambeth.
“This is part of the process of modernising our inpatient facilities for patients, service users, their carers, friends and families and our staff in Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Croydon.
“Your feedback is important to us. Please give us your views on the plans so that these can be considered as the designs are developed further this summer.”
