Rangers found themselves a goal down to the Championship strugglers at the interval, leading Cifuentes to switch to a 3-4-3 system that saw Ilias Chair and Chris Willock moved into more central roles in support of striker Michael Frey.

It was the first time the 26-year-old has found the net since December, and Cifuentes was delighted with his performance.

A combination of Rangers’ 2-1 win against Rotherham United on Saturday and Stoke City’s defeat at Cardiff City means Cifuentes’ side are out of the bottom three for the first time since September.

QPR have conceded 10 goals from set-pieces in Cifuentes’ 18 games in charge but had managed to avoid adding to that tally in the four games before the Norwich draw.

Cifuentes’ side rescued a point through two recent arrivals, as Lucas Andersen crossed for Michael Frey to turn home an equaliser.

The 29-year-old has arrived on a permanent deal from Belgian club Royal Antwerp, where he scored 33 goals in 69 matches.

The west London club have not yet signed a player in January, with the only transfer activity being the loan departures of midfielders Andre Dozzell and Stephen Duke-McKenna.

Dozzell had featured regularly under Cifuentes, featuring in 14 of the Spaniard’s first 16 matches as Rangers head coach.
