Sadiq Khan has said that further devolution is “integral to the future of our country” as he seeks greater powers as mayor if re-elected on May 6. In his re-election manifesto, the current Mayor of London has called on the Government to give him additional powers, including the power to set business rates in London as well the ability to impose rent controls.

Shaun Bailey this morning launched his election manifesto with a pledge to cut crime in London “in 100 days”. Speaking at his launch event, the Conservative candidate said that the first hundred days of a mayoral term “dictate what London will be like for the next thousand days” and that he wanted to prevent a “crime epidemic” as lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Over five hundred new tall buildings are in the pipeline for London

Love them or loathe them it looks like despite a significant slowdown in building skyscrapers during the spring and summer in 2020, there was not the downturn feared because of the pandemic. According to New London Architecture’s annual review of skyscrapers over 20 storeys or more, there are 587 tall buildings in the pipeline in London – with 310 granted full planning permission and 127 under consideration.
