Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has called for a full independent investigation into the Metropolitan Police’s “completely unacceptable” handling of a vigil for Sarah Everard this weekend. The force was widely condemned following the vigil on Saturday where officers clashed with crowds who had come to mourn the death of Sarah Everard and stand up to violence against women.

Bexley schools open food banks to support the community during the pandemic

Three schools in Bexley, all part of The Primary First Trust, are running their own food banks to support the local community during the Covid-19 pandemic. The three schools, Mayplace Primary School, Lessness Heath Primary School and Barnehurst Infant and Junior School, have created food banks to support their pupils and families who are finding it difficult to make ends meet through lockdown.

Two men convicted of ‘savage’ murder of drill rapper stabbed nine times in Deptford

Two men have been convicted of the ‘savage’ murder of the Kennington drill rapper Bis who was stabbed nine times in an alleyway in Deptford. 20-year-old Crosslom Davis, known as Bis, from the group Harlem Spartans, was allegedly chased by a gang at 3.30am in December 2019, before being beaten and stabbed to death on the corner of Creekside and Creative Road.

Celebrities including Sir Bob Geldof lend support to campaign trying to save Battersea tree

Sir Bob Geldof has lent his support to the campaign to stop a 100-year-old black poplar tree from being felled in Battersea to make way for electric cables for a new housing development. The long-term Battersea resident and singer-songwriter said in a statement provided to Extinction Rebellion Wandsworth that the council should “leave our tree alone”.
