Domestic abuse offenders in London will be “tagged” with GPS tracking devices as a UK-first pilot scheme is expanded to “increase protection for victims”, Sadiq Khan has announced. Building on a successful scheme launched in 2019 that saw knife crime offenders fitted with tags after being released from prison, the Mayor of London announced in March this year that the scheme would be expanded to include domestic abusers.

One of London’s richest boroughs has seen a huge spike in Universal Credit applications since the coronavirus pandemic. The number of people applying for Universal Credit in Kensington and Chelsea has doubled following the pandemic. In the royal borough, 4,263 residents had applied for the benefit before the start of the pandemic in February 2020. Now over 9,000 people are applying for it.

Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi escaped the Taliban in 1999 after his education made him a target, he was considered a traitor for studying in the Ukraine.
