Former homeless man spends 1000 hours volunteering with charity during the pandemic

“I would rather be helping others. If I had sat at home with Covid going on I would have been drinking,” former homeless Londoner Lee said about clocking up 1,000 hours selflessly volunteering during the pandemic. “I remember someone saying to me ‘you need to keep busy and get structure into your life, otherwise you’ll go downhill and start drinking again’.”

Southwark Council plans to convert historic stables into work space

Historic stables in Bermondsey could be turned into workspace for locals, according to a report going before Southwark’s cabinet on tomorrow. The council is planning to buy the Old Southern Railway Stables at the junction of St James’ Road and Catlin Street to “preserve their heritage” but also to “make them productive and useful work spaces for local businesses and start-ups”.

Pavements and buildings in Lewisham to transform into an outdoor gallery to celebrate Euro 2020

Pavements, roads and buildings across London will be transformed into an outdoor art gallery during the summer as the capital plays host to eight games in the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. Croydon trading standards’ three year battle against retailers selling knives to children

A company that sold knives to a child has been told to pay £25,000 in fines and costs following a court case brought by Croydon Council Trading Standards. The case against Daventry-based company Extreme GB LTD was the 17th and final in a three-year Croydon-led nationwide clampdown on knife sales to children which was backed by the Home Office and National Trading Standards.
