Community project Code-7 helps children to get home safely after school

A community project which trains volunteers to patrol streets near schools after the end of classes has opened a shop.

Code-7, which runs Lambeth Schools Patrol (LSP), opened its four-week pop-up shop in Market Row, Brixton.

The project has been funded for the second year by Brixton businesses through the Brixton Business Improvement District (BBID) and public donations.

The project seeks to befriend some of the thousands of young schoolchildren making their way home through central Brixton between 3pm-5pm during the spring and summer months.

Trained volunteers provide a safety net, reassurance and a point of advice for young children as they make their way home.

Volunteers also have mental health and advanced first aid training.

The shop is open for four weeks to encourage volunteer recruitment.

The pop-up shop is staffed by volunteers leafleting the central Brixton area and providing information on the project.
