Four more tennis courts in Lewisham set for renovation
Four tennis venues are to be renovated within Lewisham’s parks.
This next phase of Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) partnership with Lewisham council will see an investment into refurbishing public tennis courts across the borough.
The park venues being renovated are Hilly Fields, Catford Bridge, Telegraph Hill and Chinbrook Meadows.
The project is part of a nationwide investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA to open up the sport to many more people.
In addition to the investment of £166,301 from the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation, £112,843 will be invested by Lewisham council.
Tennis courts in local parks are vital in providing opportunities for children and adults to get active, delivering significant physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits to participants.
Accessible facilities in parks are critical to opening up tennis to as many people as possible.
Julie Porter, chief operating officer at the LTA, said: “We are delighted to be working with Lewisham council to improve their park tennis facilities and provide more opportunities for anyone to pick up a racket and get active.”
