Brockley Max Festival: Celebrating Lewisham’s diversity for 23 years

Brockley Max art festival is back and celebrating its 23rd Birthday this year.

Running for nine days from May 31, to June 8, organisers have lined up an exciting combination of live music, art, performance, and exhibitions, for families to enjoy.

Working alongside various venues in Lewisham, many of the events will be free to attend and easy to get to.

Starting off strong for this year’s edition, the open air Brockley Max Opening Night will return to Coulgate Street, on May 31, with live music and events.

Following on from the Black Icon’s Project last year, there will be panel discussions, films and workshops focused on black female trailblazers in Lewisham as part of Lift Her Up.

Also featured in the festivities will be Art In The Park in Hilly Fields, on June 8, offering family friendly activities from art workshops to storytelling and a craft market.

And to close the festival, Folk In The Garden – an all-dayer of the best of Lewisham folk bands.

Moira Tait, founder and director of the Brockley Max Festival, said: “Lewisham is such a diverse area. It was important our festival programme reflected that. 

“We are offering a huge variety of events this year so we’re confident there’s something to suit all tastes. Whether you want to watch comedy, learn harmonica or listen to our radio station.”
