Sister Midnight calls on South Londoners for community kick about and after party
The three women behind Lewisham’s first community owned music venue are calling on South Londoners to get involved in a full day of football.
Sister Midnight’s five-a-side tournament will be hosted in Deptford Lounge Football Court on August 11, followed up by an afterparty in the AAJA Snakepit in Deptford Church Street.
Teams already signed up for the day include Clapton CFC fans, Deptford Ravens, Dinamo Footwork, Loud & Quiet, Sister Midnight, The Social, The Ivy House, with spaces still available for anyone to get involved.
The tournament will be mixed ability and mixed gender including both community and music focused teams with the winning group promised a prize which includes tickets to RALLY festival and more.
To take part, Sister Midnight are asking for £10 per player and £5 per spectator in an effort to raise funds for their Catford venue – but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Sister Midnight is the brainchild of Lenny Watson, Sophie Farrell and Lottie Pendlebury, the lead singer of Peckham punk band Goat Girl, who say the space will become a unique and affordable music venue.
The venue is set to open in the spring of next year, after the group secured a 10-year lease of the former working men’s club – The Brookdale Club, in the Catford Centre.
Sister Midnight will have a membership system allowing those from the nearby community to help decide how it can be best used.
The space is expected to have a 250 people capacity, a community cafe space and affordable space for rehearsal and recording artists.
Having garnered more than £350,000 in funding donations from the community, Sister Midnight has now started the process of transforming the old working mans club into their very own grassroots venue.
