The Spirit of South London: Blue Badge crackdown

Let’s face it, not many of us are that thrilled by the work done by traffic wardens – or parking attendants as they are now a little euphemistically known.

We all know the flow of traffic on major arteries is essential to keep London on the move but find it hard to embrace the practice of slapping PCNs on motorists who have slightly overstayed in a paid-for parking bay.

It is hard to think of it as anything more than a money-making venture.

But Blue Badge cheats? That is something we can all get behind.

Not many people will have much sympathy with anyone who takes up spaces reserved for the disabled by displaying a bogus document on the dashboard. That is a very different matter.

So full marks to Lambeth council for leading the fight against such fraud.

They have become one of the leaders in the campaign against Blue Badge felons, not only in the capital but also in the country as a whole.
