South Asian culture festival coming to the Southbank Centre
The largest festival of South Asian culture outside the sub-continent is winging its ways to the Southbank Centre.
Alchemy showcases contemporary work from seven countries – India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the UK. The 11-day festival presents collaborations and new work from emerging and established artists across the landscape of dance, music, theatre, art, comedy and literature.
More than 50 per cent of programme is free and workshops, talks, debates and culinary debates will take place across the sites.
Highlights of the programme include the London premier of Sukanya, the only opera by world famous musician Ravi Shankar.
It was written just before he died and is inspired by his wife and stories from Indian epics. Abida Parveen, one of Pakistan’s finest Sufi vocalists of the modern era, performs for one night only in Royal Festival Hall.
The Karachi Literature Festival comes to the UK for the very first time and celebrates contemporary Pakistan and the talent and diversity of its literature scene.
