The Syrian Arts and Cultures Festival showcases Syria’s art, music and culture

The Syrian Arts and Cultures Festival (SACF’s) is a contemporary and interdisciplinary arts festival showcasing Syria’s art and culture.

The programme of music and art will be hosted in venues such as The Jazz Cafe, Barbican, Oslo Hackney and The Mosaic Rooms.

After its opening night on May 11, with a performance by Nawa Band, Panel: Aleppo flows through us, Oslo Hackney will present the Paris-based duo Bedouin Burger.

Bedouin Burger mixes Syrian singer, composer and musician Lynn Adib with the Lebanese producer Zeid Hamdan.

These two artists have created futuristic funk infused with classical folk rhythms and ageless Arabic poetry.

On May 19, the Barbican cinema will screen Purple Sea.

This documentary is composed of footage filmed on a wrist camera when a boat on the Mediterranean Sea carrying 300 people begins to sink.

The artist, Amel Alzakout was forced to cross the Med on a smuggler’s boat with 300 others.

Halfway to reaching the coast of Lesbos, the boat sank and the waterproof camera strapped to her wrist recorded an atrocity.

Through its vast offering of art and music, SACF will provide London audiences with alternative narratives and perspectives on Syria, its people and culture.
