Try out this contemporary take on a village fete at Greenwich Peninsula

Just weeks away from May, when the city becomes pleasantly warm and bursting with colourful spring blooms, everyone is excited for the coming summer.

What better way to kick things off than a Thames-side Urban Village Fete for the family at Greenwich Peninsular, on May 19.

Over the last nine years, this contemporary take on a village fete has marked the start of the festival season, with festivalgoers flocking to the Peninsula to take part in free creative workshops and talks, taste food from around the world and dance the night away.

This year the fete is welcoming the return of The Incredibly Clever Canine Circus, to teach dogs and their owners fun new tricks, a carnival workshop and procession with Kinetika Bloco and the Independent Traders Market with baked goods to handmade crafts.

Visitors are also invited to take a seat at Design District and join Creative Conversations, a series of discussions with some of London’s brightest minds, hosted by BBC London’s Robert Elms.

Running throughout the day into the evening the DJ decks will be taken over by international DJs Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova as well as The Charity Shop DJ collective where the audience choose the tunes for the Peoples Party.

Head down to Greenwich Peninsula for the Urban Viallage Fete on May 19.
