Blaze spreads through restaurant in three-floor building

Firefighters tackled a blaze in a restaurant on Saturday evening.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters responded to the fire at the restaurant in St James’s Road, Croydon.

The basement space in a terraced building of three floors was partly damaged by the fire. There are no reports of any injuries.

The brigade was first called about the fire at around 7.30pm, and crews had it under control by around 10pm.

Firefighters from Croydon, Norbury, Mitcham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental, starting with an electrical fault.
