Campaigners hope to raise £30k in two months to reopen Streatham Hill Theatre

Campaigners aim to raise more than £30,000 within two months to reopen an iconic venue.

Plans to save Streatham Hill Theatre are well under way as more than 300 people have already pledged £10,000 to save the 91-year-old art deco building.

The campaign aims to continue to raise enough money and meet a final deadline of £36,038 by May 25  to save the theatre, which was closed in 1962. It was redeveloped into a bingo hall but closed down again in 2017.

The Friends of Streatham Hill Theatre want to revive it as a vibrant and sustainable multi-use art and cultural venue, using the auditorium and the building’s other spaces.

The Friends of Streatham Hill Theatre said: “It will provide a space for culture, enterprise and growth in Streatham, challenging perceptions and attracting new investment to the area – adapting to rapidly changing trends in the experiences people seek and ways businesses and artists operate.”

Friends of Streatham Hill Theatre will hold a community stall at Kite Day on Streatham Common on Sunday May 10 and also hope to stage a fundraiser.
