Deptford Scouts team up with HSBC to understand financial skills
Young people from the Deptford Scouts have recently learned about the importance of understanding the value of money and financial skills at HSBC in London.
More than 200 Beavers, aged 6 to 8, and Cub Scouts, aged 8 to 10, joined the event at Canary Wharf in London to engage with fun and interactive money-based activities as part of The Scouts’ nationwide volunteering partnership with HSBC UK.
The Scouts believe that money skills are one of the most important topics young people today can learn about, which is exactly why the attendees had the opportunity to learn directly from experts in the field.
Everyone left the event with their Money Skills Activity Badge, overlooking the city of London on the 42nd floor of their tower and was awarded after a fun, informative and exciting day to help learn about the value of money.
Charles, an adult volunteer at the 32nd Deptford, praised the partnership between HSBC and The Scouts to teach young people important money skills.
“It has been fantastic to see HSBC and The Scouts working together to invite young people here today to help them develop their money skills and to give them knowledge of what money is, how to use it, and why it is important,” Charles said.
He continued: “I think it’s crucial for young people to understand how valuable money is.
“At that age, you don’t necessarily understand how money moves the world around them, and as a young person, it can be difficult to navigate money – especially when you have money to spend – so I think teaching young people about how to use money is very important.”
