Driver, 72, arrested after boy left severely injured in car collision

A boy of 10 suffered injuries which are thought to be life-changing after a collision involving a car.

He was one of five people and two children who were taken to hospital after the incident in a private car park in Cabul Road, Battersea, at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

A number of pedestrians were affected and police say it was the scene of a memorial service. The car subsequently collided with a tree.

The boy remains in a hospital and continues to receive treatment.

The 72-year-old driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of motoring offences, including causing serious injury. He has been bailed to a date in mid-September pending further enquiries.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating and are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Benjamin Simpson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a very sad incident in which multiple pedestrians were injured in a private car park at a memorial service.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has any information to come forward and contact the police.’’
