From banking to boxing: Former city executive puts on her gloves to launch new Bermondsey Boxing Club

From trading stocks to trading blows, a former city executive has set up a new boxing club in Bermondsey.

Bermondsey Boxing Club, in Tower Bridge Road is ready to take on customers of all levels of experience.

It’s a space with a custom- built 18ft ring and the third venue to open in London under ex-banking executive Manya Klempner.

Prior to her life at the helm of the ring, Manya led the boardrooms of some of the world’s most recognisable banking institutions including Merrill Lynch, Standard Bank, JP Morgan and Citigroup.

She said: “We will continue to grow our cherished community; from our professional fighters as they navigate their careers, our wonderful clientele who support the fighters via sponsorship while shedding their own blood, sweat and tears alongside them on the gym floor, to our fantastic coaching team that brings everyone together.”

The Bermondsey Boxing Club is part of The Boxing House Group.

The club said it is selling point is that it is a “proper boxing gym”, rather than a studio that does boxing-inspired classes or boxercise.

It says it is inclusive of all types of people with all types of skill levels. The club has people who have been boxing for a week and sharing a class with those that have done it for years.

The club will run its inaugural White-Collar Camp from September 12, giving boxers of all levels complete training and competing experience – from classes and equipment through to workshops and assessments.

It has managed to secure the services of Adam Booth – a renowned professional boxing coach who coached former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.

The club is open from 6am to 9.30pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm on weekends. Patrons can purchase an introductory offer of £30.
